Battling the Winter Blues

Battling the Winter Blues

Old Man Winter can be a mighty foe!  It’s no secret that winters in the great northeast are harsh, to say the least!  With temperatures dipping sometimes into the negative double digits, folks in the northeast spend a lot of time and resources preparing for the winter months.

The cold Adirondack temperatures, typical abundance of snow and ice bring some unique challenges to life in the northeast.  From home heating bills higher by average than any other place in the country, to the challenges of the present economic climate, there’s no doubt that few people in the area are looking forward to winter.

But there’s plenty about our area that can bring some cheer to the gloom of the cold months!  For not a lot of money folks can find an abundance of things to do this winter guaranteed to lift the spirits and ease the burden on our wallets!

Communities around Sacandaga Lake offer everything from snowmobile “fun runs” to a “Snow Rally Scavenger Hunt,” ice fishing contests to winter fireworks!

“Wait, did you say fireworks?” … That’s right folks, we said fireworks! Northville’s Sport Island Pub and Restaurant hosts a winter fireworks display annually in February!

Sacandaga Lake is also home to a great number of winter trails for snowshoeing and nature appreciation, as well as some of the best – and most economical – ski mountains the Adirondacks have to offer!
