Welcome Spring 2012!

So we have survived yet another Adirondack winter, one that by comparison was pretty mild in the snowfall department, but that aside, the sun and warmer weather sure are a welcome sign. It’s funny how the warm weather, even when it’s 60 out, has some people going as far as throwing on a pair of shorts and a short sleeve shirt, maybe a way of thumbing their noses to old man winter.

We have definitely noticed a buzz around the our area, and can tell that everyone is getting excited about getting out on the lake a little earlier this year, which is great for our local economy as well as for those that love to fish and go boating.

There is no doubt that the southern Adirondacks area is a wonderful area full of outdoor things to do, but for those that aren’t the get-up-and-go-climb-a-mountain type, or are looking for something for all ages, we have a whole host of other great things that our area has to offer!

Farmers Markets!

These are one of our favorite things about living in Upstate NY, fresh, locally grown produce, from the hard working folks that we are proud to have as our neighbors. The month of May signals the opening of farmers’ markets, including our local favorites, The Gloversville Farmers’ Market at Trail Station Park which opens May 5th, The Johnstown Farmers’ Market in the Johnstown Hotel lot opens May 22nd, and the Amsterdam Uptown Market at the Sanford Farms complex on Route 30 which opens May 16th. These are open all summer too, so get out each weekend and treat yourselves to some fresh fruit, vegetables and other local goods!

Spring Flings & Festivals!

Many of the communities around our area have annual spring flings or weekend festivals scheduled. These flings and festivals are usually full of food, fun, local music, artists and talented crafters from around the area. In our neck of the woods, the City of Amsterdam is going to have their 2nd annual Spring Fling, schedule this year for Saturday, May 19th from 10am-6pm. The downtown area right in-front of our offices (so come in and say hi!) are closed off to traffic and is filled with vendors, music and fun for the whole family. Another local favorite is the Village of Northville’s Garage Sale Weekend, while not a festival per-se it is a lot of fun and a great excuse to get out and get some sun, the event this year is scheduled for the weekend of May 4th-6th.

For more events check our calendar of events for local spring festivals, flings and other spring time events happening in our area, check back often as new events are added weekly, as we get submissions from local organizations.
