Six Mile Waterworks Free Fishing Event to Kick Off Trout Season

And so it begins… On Monday, April 1st at 10 a.m., the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will stock Six Mile Waterworks with nearly 2,000 catch-able size rainbow trout during a Free Fishing Event to kick off the 2013 fresh water fishing season. In addition, DEC Commissioner Joe Martens will make an announcement regarding 2013 Free Fishing Weekends.

Six Mile Waterworks is home to a variety of freshwater fish species including: large-mouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, brown bullhead and most recently, rainbow trout.

When stocking is complete, anyone can fish without a fishing license from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participants must comply with current fishing regulations. DEC Fisheries staff will be available to provide casting instruction and other fishing education as needed. Fishing equipment and bait will be available for people to use. LL Bean will also be present to provide fly casting demonstrations.
