Luzerne Campground


Located on Fourth Lake, this is a very popular family campground. It is within the Lake George region which offers some of the most diverse recreational opportunities in NYS. Boating and canoeing (rentals available) along with fishing are popular activities. Swimming at the day-use or campers beach along with sun bathing is popular with recreation enthusiasts. Luzerne offers an Interpreter Activity Program, which seeks to promote a clearer understanding and appreciation of the Adirondacks through nature walks, games and other activities for all ages.

Amenities: 174 tent and trailer sites; hot showers; flush toilets; trailer dump station; recycling center; mobility impaired accessibility; picnic area with tables, fireplaces, and charcoal grills; picnic pavilion rental; 2 swimming areas; 22 horse paddocks; 2 covered standing stalls; rowboats; canoes. *Please note that for patrons at Luzerne proof of current negative coggins certificate is required for all horses entering the campground. Out-of-state horse owners will be required to produce a 30-day health certificate. Patrons must carry each horses health papers with them at all times. Patrons will be responsible for the cleaning of their stalls and paddocks during their stay and before their departure.

Directions: From the Northway (I-87), Exit 21 to Route 9N south, then 7 miles on left.

Nature Recreation Program: From the end of June to Labor Day an organized recreation activity program is offered daily. This includes nature hikes, crafts, games and live entertainment. An activity listing, the “Wilderness Times”, is posted and includes complete information on daily events. * Please take note that at facilities that offer the Nature Recreation Program, there may be days when Environmental Educators are unavailable, and no programs will be offered. In addition the length of this program may vary by campground due to staffing issues. For additional information, please contact the Recreation Staff.

Boating: No motor boats allowed. Rowboats and canoes allowed. Rowboat and canoe rentals available.

Fishing: Fish present are: bass, northern pike, yellow perch, bullhead, trout, and pumpkin seed.

Hiking: Nature Trail in the park and numerous hiking trails in nearby Lake George.

Day Use Facilities: A picnic area, pavilion rental, and swimming beach available. * Please take note that at facilities that offer swimming beaches, there are days which lifeguards are unavailable. For the safety of our customers, these beaches will not be open and swimming will be prohibited.

Area Attractions: Nature lovers will find boating, canoeing, hiking, and mountain climbing. Shoppers will enjoy the outlet malls, and everyone can enjoy the restaurants, theme parks, theatres, and historic sites.

Historic Interest: Construction was started in 1966 and the campground with 167 sites was opened in the year 1967. For public use seven (7) additional sites in horse area opened in 1987 bringing present campground total to 174 sites. Campground is located on Fourth Lake which covers approximately 51 acres. No motor boats are allowed on this lake.
